Edward J. Flanagan was the founder of the Girls and Boys Town.

Girls and Boys Town, formerly Boys Town, is a non-profit organization of the Roman Catholic Church dedicated to the ministry and care of at-risk children. It provides education and room and board for member participants. Its national headquarters is in the Village of Boys Town in Nebraska. It is a National Historic Landmark.

The original Boys Town was founded as a boys orphanage in 1917 by Edward J. Flanagan, a diocesan parish priest working in Omaha.

A 1938 movie called Boys Town features actor Spencer Tracy portraying Flanagan. It also starred Mickey Rooney, Henry Hull, Gene Reynolds, Edward Norris and Addison Richards.
