Throngs Flock To Holiday Party
Attendance much greater than expected

By Carol Greve

The holiday season in the Vieux Carré got off to a rollicking start in early December with French Quarter Citizens' holiday party. Members took seriously the invitation to bring "all your friends and neighbors who are interested in preserving the French Quarter." We had a huge, happy group estimated to be well over 200, each and every one of whom was greeted by our President, Lyn Reed.

If you missed it, you missed meeting many new Quarterites and seeing old friends. Thank goodness for Michael Murphy's large outdoor heaters. My house was bursting at the seams with all the celebrants, and spilling out into the courtyard was a must. People just kept coming and coming. Our volunteer bartenders, Doug Greve, Derek Dinkler, Tom Dalton, Joe Campbell, Don Kern and Robert Glisson, did a great job of mixing martinis, cosmopolitans or any other fanciful drink. Judith Campbell's donation of a case of champagne was drunk to the last drop (no pun intended).

We had so much delicious food it was incredible. Every tablecloth was covered and as soon as one dish emptied it was replaced by another. Thanks to Michie & Tom Bissell for arranging extra wait staff.

People in the Quarter really know how to throw and enjoy a great party. Thanks to everyone who helped make this a special evening. Have a wonderful holiday and new year.
