New Signs Help Broken Glass Problem
Both Captain Dabdoub and Lynn Wiltz
noticed a big difference in the amount of broken glass on the streets during
Mardi Gras this year. Last year police horses couldn't travel on certain
streets due to the amount of glass -- this time there was no problem. Last year
the garbage trucks were slowed down with so many sharp glass pieces caught in
their machinery, this year all went much faster.
The reason? A PR campaign on hotel TV's (as well as on Channel 15)
featuring Clarkson and Dabdoub AND the 200+ new green & white metal signs
(see photo above) permanently attached to poles in strategic locations around
the Quarter, organized through the Bourbon Street Alliance and paid for by beer
companies - yet another fine example of teamwork in action, this time
government and private business working together, all for a positive end.
