New VCC Director Announced
The Mayor's office has announced that Lary Hesdorffer will be the new
Director of the Vieux Carré Commission. Hesdorffer comes with 28 years
of experience in historic preservation. After graduating from Tulane University
with a bachelor's degree in architecture, he went on to serve at the Historic
District Landmarks Commission here in New Orleans as a staff architect, a
building inspector and an assistant director. He also spent six years in
Atlanta at the Georgia Trust for Historic Preservation.
Outgoing Director Marc Cooper is very pleased with the caliber of his
replacement and feels he will serve the French Quarter well. Hesdorffer has
developed a special understanding and respect for the necessary balance between
businesses and residents, a crucial factor in preservation issues here in the
Quarter. He will take office on March 31st.
