Fire Chief George Bass began his career with the Long Beach Fire Department in February 1979 as a recruit firefighter. He advanced through the rank of Lieutenant in July 1982, to Captain in 1986, to Battalion Chief in 1988, and to the rank of Fire Chief in 1994. Chief Bass has an Associate in Fire Administration from LSU and has received numerous certifications from Mississippi State Fire Academy and the National Fire Academy in Emmetsburg, Maryland. Chief Bass is married; his wife Sherry is the Director of Surgery at Biloxi Regional Medical Center and has a 17 year old son, Jared, who is a senior at Long Beach High School.
