DEVIL CHOLLA (Opuntia stanlyi)
The devil cholla is one of the group known as club chollas, named after the club-shaped segments. These are low-growing species that usually branch from the base and form mats across the ground. The spines are flattened, dagger-sharp, and have no sheaths.
Devil cholla can cover extensive areas of flat, dry terrain in desert grasslands or in calcareous and salty sites where little else will grow.
