Lake
Alan Henry
Lake
Alan Henry is situated 22 miles southeast from Post in Garza County
on the Double Mountain Fork of the Brazos River. The lake when full,
covers 2,880 acres and contains approximately 40 billion gallons
of water. Confined between the rocky sides of the river channel,
the lake extends 11 miles upstream to provide 56 miles of shoreline,
an average water depth of 40 feet, and may be up to 100 feet deep
at the dam.
Texas
Parks & Wildlife Department's Fisheries Division began stocking
Lake Alan Henry in 1993 with fingerlings of several game fish species
such as: Blue Catfish, Channel Catfish, Bluegill, Gizzard Shad,
Crappie, Florida Largemouth Bass, and Smallmouth Bass.
The
Division will continue to monitor habitat development and fish populations
in the lake. It is anticipated that the lake will also attract many
species of waterflow and other wildlife, offering bird watching
and photographic opportunities.
Before
heading out to Lake Alan Henry make your stop in Post to pick up
some groceries at United, open from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. and don't forget
your bait! Nancy's bait shop can provide live bait. But past Post,
Grub's Bait & Grill can help with the bait, fishing gear, food
and groceries.
