Alvin G. Davis
collection opens
at Garza County Historical Museum. Story in Arts-History
Newsletter. "Possibly no single individual has
ever contributed a much as Alvin to the carrying on of our great Cowboy
heritage. Davis served as chairman, president or administrator of 18
national organizations connected with cowboy culture, including the American Jr.
Rodeo Association, National Western Artists Association, American Chuck Wagon
Association, International Western Music Association, National
Intercollegiate Rodeo Association, American Cowboy Cultural Association,
Western-English Retailers of America and National Cowboy Symposium and
Celebration. The recipient of dozens of awards from local, state,
regional, national and international organizations, Davis has helped start more
than 20 cowboy culture events across the United States. When asked of his
experiences, Davis says, "I've been to a couple of goat ropeings and a
county fair or two." Davis is a favorite son with roots in the
ranching of Garza County.
Traditional "Founder's Day" in Post highlighted Jody Nix and the Texas Cowboys at the annual dance. Along with the dinner and dance, the city was alive with downtown vendors, a "Kingsford Shootout" for all Back Yard Cooks sponsored by Kingsford Charcoal and Charcoal Starters, the annual "Quilt Show" at the Algerita Arts Center.

April 28, 1916 to Sept. 5, 2001, her entire life spent in Garza County, born
in the Old Post Sanitarium, lived in the same building as a bride, worked there during WW II, a
pioneer that will be missed.
LeRoy McCrary: Feb. 21, 1908 - Sept. 17, 2001. 1st baby born in Garza County after it was organized: Submitted the name "Antelopes" for Post School mascot. Retired from Santa Fe Railroad in 1973. Helped create and develop the Garza Theatre with son, Will McCrary in 1985. Awarded his 60 year pin from Post Masonic Lodge.

Rebecca Foster-Manry: Aug. 9, 1948-Oct. 1, 2001: Social worker for State of Texas & mechanical draftsman. Services held with her Aunt: Marion Wheatly and her cousin, Bill Duncan.

Ruby Young: April 29. 1930 - Oct. 1, 2001: Parents: T.A. Pierce and Lema Curb: PHA grad, worked for Frito-Lay 20 yrs. retired in 1985. Member of Sunset Church of Christ, Sheriffs Auxiliary, and enjoyed doll making.
Ruth Hall: July 4. 1915-Oct. 1, 2001: Husband "Buddy" Hall and son Joe of Graham: TT grad, Delta Kappa Gamma member and school teacher in Southland ISD until retirement. Member of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church: moved to Post from Pleasant Valley community in 1988.
