Looking upstream from the US 27 bridge put-in.
Never having been to the "Iche" before it took me a while to figure out how to get my boat in the water.
I started out by driving up to the North entrance - main springs area off County Route 238. The fee station was unmanned and the gate open so I went in. I found the put-in and talked to a couple getting there canoe ready to go. I inquired about another put-in and they told me to check out the south entrance at the US Route 27 bridge.
I thanked them and decided to poke around the rest of the park. I ended up at the tube and canoe launch area. I was walking down the path and met two middle-aged women in wet suit tops and shorts and bare feet. I inquired as to the where abouts of the water and they told me it was down the path a ways. They were recently relocated from San Diego and where at the park to swim the 4 miles down to Rt 27. They had been expecting warmer weather and were a bit leery of making the trip.
After exchanging pleasantries I left them and drove down to Southern entrance by US 27 bridge. I did not want to pay the $4.00 entrance fee because I was planning on buying an annual pass, so I parked across the road and hauled my stuff down to the put-in.
