The Nostromo drifts through space, returning to Earth.

All is silent aboard ship as the crew are in hypersleep.

On the main flight deck, the ship's computer springs into life.......

....And awakens the crew from their deep sleep.

They enjoy a full breakfast.

During casual chat Brett reminds Parker to mention their pay.

Parker feels the need to discuss the "bonus situation".  He makes it clear he is unhappy that everybody else gets more money than himself and Brett.  Captain Dallas tells him that he will get what he was contracted for.

Dallas receives a call from the computer "Mother".  Information for his eyes only.

He sits at the terminal and reads what's on the screen.

On the flight deck, Kane, Lambert and Ripley scan the star charts to plan their approach to Earth.  But they can't find Earth!

Back in the mess hall Dallas tells the crew that Mother has picked up a signal.  A message that repeats every 12 seconds, but it's origin and content is unknown.  The crew are expected to investigate.

Parker points out that this is not a rescue ship, and adds that if they want to give him more money, He'll gladly go and investigate.

Ash tells Parker that there's a clause in their contracts that says any sign of intelligent life must be investigated, and it would be in his best interests to co-operate, as refusal would mean a total forfeiture of all shares.... "No money".  Parker agrees to co-operate.

The Nostromo heads for the souce of the transmission.  A planet called LV426.

The smaller command section of the ship separates from the mother ship.....

.....and heads towards the alien planet.

The landing is not a smooth one, several systems are damaged.

Lambert, Ripley, Dallas and Kane listen to Parker and Brett explain exactly what has sustained damage, and their estimates on repair times.

Captain Dallas decides how to proceed.  While the ship repairs are underway, he decides that himself, Kane and Lambert are going to go outside the ship and try to find the source of the transmission.

High speed winds lash the ship as the crew prepare to disembark.  Not a very nice place to break down.
