Photos of the West Fork of the Greenbrier River Rail-Trail

On August 10th 2002, Laurel, Road Captain of the Harrison County Bicycle Association (HCBA) and I met to ride the West Fork Rail-Trail. The weather was gorgeous, sunny, blue skies, breezy and in the 70s. Perfect for the 44 mile round trip from Glady to Durbin.

The West Fork Trail follows an old railroad grade along the West Fork of the Greenbrier River. The trail is exceptionally scenic with wildflowers in the Spring and Summer months and gloriously colored vistas in Autumn. This converted Western Maryland railroad bed offers access to a remote section of the Greenbrier watershed. This quiet 22 mile stretch provides an excellent backcountry experience. The trail parallels the West Fork of the Greenbrier River almost its entire length.

You can watch the river grow from a small trickle at the Lynn Divide, fish in cool summer shadows, swim in sunny pools, tube the crisp clear rapids and see the confluence with the East Fork to form the Greenbrier River.

The trail is managed by the USFS.
