PLANTS OF PINACATE #4

Burrobrush (Hymenoclea salsola) is also known as cheesebush. It is quite widely distributed in arid areas of the wetern USA. Photographed here in the Pinacate Reserve, April 2001, in a flat desert area covered with cinder. This plant can be a common pioneer coloniser of disturbed sites.

A shrub with narrow, threadlike leaves commonly found in desert washes.

Close-up of burrobrush, showing the tiny white flowers that can give the whole plant a white appearance. Note also the green, photosynthetic stems.

A detailed profile of this plant and its uses can be found HERE (not on this server)
