Helen Cresswell (July 11, 1934 Nottingham - September 26, 2005 Eakring, Nottinghamshire) was a British author of over 120 books for children including A Gift from Winklesea, the Lizzie Dripping series, and The Bagthorpe Saga.

She also adapted numerous stories for television, including Five Children and It and The Demon Headmaster.

Cresswell died at her home in Eakring, Nottinghamshire. She had been suffering from cancer for some time.
