The Louisiana IceGators were an ECHL team based in Lafayette, Louisiana from 1995 until the end of the 2005 season. They played their home games at the Cajundome and were last an affiliate of the Minnesota Wild. It is certain that the IceGators have marked a place in minor league sports history with a string of successes never to be forgotten.

The Gator's have enjoyed much success in Lafayette. They have set many attendance records, however, it seems that despite being a very successful hockey team. Louisiana has the top four regular season average attendance in ECHL history with 11,433 in 1996-97, 11,196 in 1997-98, 9,857 in 1998-99 and 9,776 in 1995-96. The IceGators have the eight largest and nine of the 10 biggest postseason crowds in ECHL history, including four capacity crowds of 11,800 in 1997. By the end of their tenure the attendance had slowed to a trickle. The 2005 season was plagued with money and attendance issues which forced the Cajundome to no longer allow seating in the 300 level seats. The final game wasn't even a sellout with an attendance of only 4,228.
