Global

T-Mobile is a group of mobile phone corporate subsidiaries (all under the ownership of Deutsche Telekom) that operate GSM networks in Europe and the United States. The "T" stands for "Telekom." All subsidiaries of Deutsche Telekom have names beginning with "T-". T-Mobile also has financial stakes in mobile operators in Eastern Europe. Globally, T-Mobile has 109 million subscribers, making it the world's 4th largest mobile phone service provider.

T-Mobile is also a sponsor of several sport events in which some carry the company name. For example its own cycling team, the T-Mobile Team, or the Austrian soccer Bundesliga.

The Czech Republic

T-Mobile entered Czech market in 2001 when it acquired Czech's second largest cell phone service provider Paegas. Paegas was founded in 1996 by Ceske radiokomunikace, and until 2005 it had always been Nr. 2 cell wireless provider. Its biggest competitor has always been Eurotel, on the other side Oskar, the youngest of all three providers, has never become any significat player in T-Mobile's fields of business.

Czech T-Mobile recently became Nr. 1 cell phone service provider in the Czech Republic. One of the reasons for that was the former Nr. 1 Eurotel change its formulas for compounding the number of customers - it used to count all sim cards that made a phone call in last 18 months as active, now the range of being not active has shrunk to 13 months.

Today T-Mobile provides monthly plans as well as very popular pre-paid cards called Twist. T-Mobile is the only wireless provider that offers their customers American products, such as BlackBerry which is widely popular among European businesses.

United Kingdom

T-Mobile UK was previously known as One 2 One, and before that as Mercury One 2 One. T-Mobile offer both pay-as-you-go and monthly contract phones, but their business strategy is to concentrate on the latter as the ARPU (Average Revenue Per User) is generally higher. They share their network with virtual operator Virgin Mobile by selling airtime in bulk to Virgin who offer a range of competitive pay-as-you-go tariffs. T-Mobile is positioned 4th in the market.

The Netherlands

T-Mobile NL (Formerly known as Ben Nederland) was taken over by T-Mobile International in September 2002, and rebranded as T-Mobile on 25th February 2003. T-Mobile Netherlands has approx 2.3 million subscribers (as of July 2005), and is positioned 4th in the Dutch market.

The company started the deployment of its new UMTS-HSDPA network, and has planned the launch around March 2006.

Germany

In Germany, its home market, T-Mobile is the largest mobile phone operator with 28.2 million subscribers (as of July 2005), closely followed by its primary rival Vodafone. The highly profitable GSM network in Germany is scheduled to be supplemented and ultimately replaced by UMTS, for which T-Mobile spent €8.2 billion in August 2000 to acquire one of the six licenses for Germany.

United States

T-Mobile USA was previously known as VoiceStream (which in turn had acquired the cellular carriers PowerTel, Aerial, PrimeCo(Formerly GTE Wireless) and Omnipoint). VoiceStream was acquired by Deutsche Telekom in May 2001 for $24 billion. Headquartered in Bellevue, Washington, T-Mobile USA is currently the fourth largest carrier in the US market with 20 million customers as well as the third fastest-growing after Verizon Wireless and Cingular respectively, adding an average of about one million customers per quarter in 2004 and the first quarter of 2005. Through international roaming agreements, connections to Deutsche Telekom, and compatibility with other GSM networks, T-Mobile USA provides access to more places worldwide than any other US wireless carrier. In 2004 and 2005, T-Mobile USA was recognized with several prestigious awards from J.D. Power and Associates, including "2004 Highest Ranked Wireless Customer Service Performance" and "2004 Highest Overall Customer Satisfaction with Wireless Retail Service" as well as the "2005 Highest Ranked Wireless Customer Service Performance" and "2005 Highest in Customer Service with Business Wireless Service". On September 7, 2005, JD Power announced that T-Mobile has captured every Customer Satisfaction award, sweeping all six regions of the country for the second year in a row.

While T-Mobile USA has a smaller coverage area than its national competitors, it guarantees quality coverage and provides a personal coverage check at its stores and on its corporate website t-mobile.com. A user can type in his address, view a coverage map of his her area, and assess the quality of coverage.

Among the national providers, T-Mobile USA is often seen as the value provider and generally offers some of the most competitive rates and plans.

In the US there are more than 6,000 T-Mobile HotSpot locations for Wi-Fi Internet access, including airports, airline clubs, Starbucks coffeehouses, Kinko's, Borders Books and Music, Hyatt and Red Roof Inn Hotels. The Wi-Fi infrastructure was completely replaced when T-Mobile bought WISP MobileStar.

In September of 2005, T-Mobile, after much delay, launched its EDGE (Enhanced Data rates for GSM Evolution) network in 90% of its coverage area.

T-Mobile's US spokesperson is the actress Catherine Zeta-Jones. In North America (prior to being bought by T-Mobile), the then-VoiceStream Wireless company's spokesperson was Jamie Lee Curtis. While Zeta-Jones continues as T-Mobile's global spokesperson, T-Mobile USA began using rapper Snoop Dogg as the spokesperson for the company's T-Mobile Sidekick in a series of commercials late in 2004.

T-Mobile USA is the official sponsor for the National Basketball Association and the Women's National Basketball Association.

T-Mobile USA's corporate slogan is "Get More from Life".

T-Mobile USA was featured in Seattle Magazine's March 2005 issue "Best Places to Work". The work environment is characterized as having a relatively flat corporate hierarchy, great benefits, flexible hours, and a strong emphasis on quality coaching of staff.
