The town of Clinton is the parish seat of East Feliciana Parish, in the US state of Louisiana. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 1,998.

Clinton is located at 30°51'47" North, 91°0'57" West (30.863050, -91.015789)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 7.1 km² (2.8 mi²). 7.1 km² (2.7 mi²) of it is land and 0.1 km² (0.04 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.72% water.

Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 1,998 people, 670 households, and 481 families residing in the town. The population density is 281.5/km² (729.0/mi²). There are 771 housing units at an average density of 108.6/km² (281.3/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 40.74% White, 58.26% African American, 0.05% Native American, 0.15% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.10% from other races, and 0.70% from two or more races. 1.75% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 670 households out of which 34.3% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 41.2% are married couples living together, 26.1% have a female householder with no husband present, and 28.1% are non-families. 26.6% of all households are made up of individuals and 11.9% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.71 and the average family size is 3.30.

In the town the population is spread out with 30.0% under the age of 18, 9.0% from 18 to 24, 27.5% from 25 to 44, 21.8% from 45 to 64, and 11.7% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 34 years. For every 100 females there are 96.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 91.1 males.

The median income for a household in the town is $27,016, and the median income for a family is $29,444. Males have a median income of $32,500 versus $20,268 for females. The per capita income for the town is $13,353. 33.6% of the population and 25.3% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 44.6% of those under the age of 18 and 23.7% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
