Pickensville is a town located in Pickens County, Alabama. As of the 2000 census, the population of the town is 662.

Pickensville is located at 33°13'50" North, 88°16'21" West (33.230693, -88.272554)1.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 26.0 km² (10.0 mi²). 20.1 km² (7.8 mi²) of it is land and 5.9 km² (2.3 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 22.73% water.

Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 662 people, 255 households, and 182 families residing in the town. The population density is 33.0/km² (85.4/mi²). There are 392 housing units at an average density of 19.5/km² (50.6/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 35.35% White, 62.99% Black or African American, 0.15% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.30% from other races, and 1.21% from two or more races. 0.00% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 255 households out of which 33.3% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 44.3% are married couples living together, 22.0% have a female householder with no husband present, and 28.6% are non-families. 24.3% of all households are made up of individuals and 7.5% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.60 and the average family size is 3.11.

In the town the population is spread out with 27.0% under the age of 18, 10.9% from 18 to 24, 25.5% from 25 to 44, 24.3% from 45 to 64, and 12.2% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 36 years. For every 100 females there are 96.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 93.2 males.

The median income for a household in the town is $25,357, and the median income for a family is $28,036. Males have a median income of $25,625 versus $22,955 for females. The per capita income for the town is $15,575. 34.4% of the population and 29.2% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 43.6% of those under the age of 18 and 53.2% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
