How to organise a meetup

The meetup Web site has a category of local meetings for regularly scheduled Wikipedia meetings: http://wikipedia.meetup.com/. Meetup.com provides RSVP-handling, tips for organizers, message boards, and lots of other toys. Wikipedia meetups always happen on the second Monday of each month (unless changed by the local organizer). Downsides: poor support for multiple languages, and not very "wiki", and some people don't like Monday meetings.

If there's not a meetup.com Wikipedia meet near you, and you want to start one, you can organize one through this page, too. Put a date/place on this page, advertise on the village pump, contact Wikipedians by location, and you can set up meetups whenever and wherever you please! The German Wikipedians use this Wikipedia-system and it works really well. Meetings just show up on your watchlist.
